The World Health Report 2005 – Make Every

Dr Sanjiv Kumar, Regional Programme Officer, Health and Nutrition, UNICEF Regional Office for CEE, CIS and Baltic States

The report highlights the link between the poverty and maternal land child ill-health. This year almost 11 million children under five years of age will die from causes that are largely preventable. Among them are 4 million babies who will not survive the first month of life. At the same time, more than half a million women will die in pregnancy, childbirth or soon after. The situation of women and children poses health problems both in the poor and richer countries.
The press conference will take palace at the Regional United Nations Information Centre for Western Europe, Residence Palace, Bloc C2 – 8th floor -  155, rue de la loi/Wetstraat, 155 B. 1040 Brussels
